Input lag represents the delay (measured in milliseconds, or ms) between your gaming console emitting a signal and that frame being rendered visually on screen.
Target Thresholds for Projector Gaming
Under 16ms (Excellent): Equivalent to 1 frame of delay at 60Hz. Essential for competitive online multiplayers, fast-paced first-person shooters (FPS), and fighting games.
16ms – 30ms (Good): Highly responsive. Perfect for action games, sports titles, and general console gaming.
30ms – 50ms (Acceptable): Fine for casual single-player adventure games, turn-based RPGs, and puzzle games.
50ms+ (Unfavorable): Noticeable controller float/lag. Not recommended for interactive gaming.
High Frame Rate Modes (120Hz & 240Hz)
Many modern gaming-focused LED projectors offer dedicated Low Latency Modes (ALLM). By bypassing heavy video processing features (like frame interpolation or motion smoothing), lag can drop as low as 4ms to 8ms when receiving a 1080p @ 240Hz or 4K @ 120Hz signal.

Sub-Millisecond Latency
The most significant advancement for gamers is the sheer processing speed of the new controller. TI claims this new chipset will enable "sub-millisecond display latency". This means the delay between your console or PC sending a frame and the projector rendering it will be virtually imperceptible, rivaling or even exceeding the world's highest-end gaming monitors.
The End of Screen Tearing (VRR)
In a major first for a DLP chipset, the new controller introduces native integration for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). VRR allows the projector to actively sync its frame rate with the output of your gaming console or PC. This eliminates the jarring "screen tearing" and stuttering that occurs when a game's frame rate drops or spikes, ensuring incredibly smooth motion.
Extremely High Frame Rates
The new micro-mirrors on the DMD are paired with a more powerful controller, allowing them to move, settle, and repeat at unprecedented speeds. This enables the chipset to support massive frame rates of up to 240Hz. At CES 2026, manufacturers were already showcasing upcoming UST projectors using this technology to display full 4K resolution at 120 frames per second with just 1 millisecond of input lag.
The 4K/120Hz Catch
While the hardware is capable of incredibly low latency and high frame rates (up to 240Hz), it is important to note a current limitation: the initial rollout of this specific controller only supports 4K resolution at a maximum of 60Hz. This means if you plug a PS5 or Xbox Series X into one of these new projectors, the projector must internally downconvert the 4K/120Hz signal to 4K/60Hz for display due to processing limitations. However, TI officials have stated that a dual-controller configuration is currently in development that will eventually unlock full 4K/120Hz support.
